Most people need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to travel to Canada - not both. Some people may only need their valid passport.
Citizens of visa-exempt countries intending to travel to Canada by air are required to have applied for and obtained an eTA before boarding their plane to Canada.
