Family Sponsorship

You can sponsor certain relatives to come to Canada if you’re at least 18 years old and a:


  • Canadian citizen or
  • Permanent Resident of Canada or
  • Person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act


 Your relatives can live, study and work in Canada if they become permanent residents of Canada. 

who you can sponsor

  • Spouse 
  • Common-law partner 
  • Conjugal partner
  • Dependent children
  • Adopted children
  • Parents & Grandparents
  • Orphaned relatives  (brother, sister, nephew, niece, grandson or granddaughter, who are orphaned, under the age of 18 and not married or in a common-law relationship)
  • Other relatives If you don’t have any relatives (aunt or uncle or any of the relatives listed above), who is a  Canadian citizen or permanent resident,  you may sponsor one relative, related by blood or adoption, of any age.
